Bone Tissue & Development
Bone is formed through a lengthy process involving ossification of a cartilage formed from mesenchyme. Two main forms of ossification occur in different bones, intramembranous ossification (eg skull) and endochondral ossification (eg limb long bones) ossification.
* Bone strength
The organic matrix of bone, especially collagen fibers, provides bone's flexibility and great tensile strength (ability to stretch without breaking).
The calcium salts provide (inorganic mineral hydroxyapatite) bone its hardness, which resists compression.
* Compact bone vs Spongy bone
* Bone remodeling and calcium ion level
