Get (someone) to (do something)

: ~ 하게하다 라는 뜻의 사역 동사

 

(ex)

I couldn't get my father to stop giving our dog things that it's not supposed to eat

 

 

 

~하게하다 라는 뜻을 가진 사역동사로는
have, let, make, get 등 이 있는데

 

그중에서 Have 와 Get, 그 뉘앙스를 비교해보자

 

(ex)

I have my kids  go to bed early last night 이라고 한다면 

~하게 하다 하는 의미가 아아주 중립적이다. 하도록 시키는 그 과정이 잘 안되거나 어려운 느낌이 없다

 

의미상으로는 I told my kids to go to bed early last night과 같다.

(다만 tell 과 have 와의 차이점은

tell 은 말만 한 것이고 have 는 그 행동을 하도록 한 것..!)

 

I got my kids go to bed early last night

아이들을 일찍 재우는 과정이 순조롭지는 않았지만 결국 재웠음, 해냈음

 

반면에 get 은 그 행동을 하도록 시키는 과정에서

resistancs/ struggle 등이 있어서 순조롭지만은 않았음을 나타냄

 

 

 

 

 

He's not in the office right now.

          I'll have him come find you / I'll have him call you

 

(= I'll tell him to call you/ I'll tell him to come find you)

 

 입에 잘 안붙는닷 ㅜㅜ

 

let, make, tell 등은 단어 자체에서 시키는 뜻이 나타나 있는데

have 는 표면적으로는 시키다 라는 의미가 잘 전달이 안되니까

잘 안 써지는 것 같다..!
